Anna Louise Fleming was born November 13, 1947, and the rest is a great story.  Her parents, the late John Clarence and Betty Mae Tandy Humphries raised her to always be the best.  This was something she had to do being the oldest of 12 children.

As Anna got older, she decided that her name was Annie and then went by that name.   In later years, she was just known as Ann.  A natural born leader, she was always on the move looking for new ways to improve on what was and what it could be.

Annie attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and then Attucks High School.  She was a member of the graduating Class of 1965 and cherished her friendships with these fellow students.

In her early years, she worked for Earl C. Clements Job Corps in Morganfield, Ky.   Realizing the need for further education, she attended the Hopkinsville Community College and earned an Associate Degree in Arts.  After obtaining this degree, she worked for Bell South Telephone Company, loving called "Ma Bell".  This job transferred her to work in Louisville, Ky in the early 1980's and she remained in Louisville even after retiring.

Annie accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Main Street Baptist Church.   The church was then located on the corner of 4th and Main.  She was part of the group that hung in Brooks' Drug Store every Sunday after church.   Main Street later became the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.   She was an active member, singing in the Young Adult Choir and making sure her children knew the love of Jesus as well.   After moving to Louisville, she united with and became active in the Portland Memorial Baptist Church and continued to sing in the choir.   While at Portland Memorial, she met and married Mike Mayfield.

If you knew Ann, you loved her.   She loved working difficult 1000+ Pieces Jigsaw Puzzles, the more difficult the better, playing Bid Whist, Spades, Dominoes, and any game that required interaction with others.   Never did a 4-leaf clover go unpicked.

Ann was a part of the group, Friends United.  For many years, they held a dance to jump start the Christmas Season. Still wanting this tradition to continue, she suggested it be held in Hopkinsville in 2022, in conjunction with the celebration of her 75th birthday.   Her determination for a successful event overcame the pain she was experiencing.

While in Louisville, she was part of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, Louisville Chapter.  She enjoyed working with this organization and gave it her all.  She was a champion for voting rights and wanted to make sure that everybody voted, and their vote was counted.

After the birth of her first grandchild, she was loving called Grannie Annie.

Preceded in death by her husband, Mike Mayfield, her parents, John and Betty Humphries, her father, Hugh Fleming, brothers Clarence "Bubba", James "Pee Wee" and Phillip Humphries; nephew, Shannon Sowell and niece, Andrea Latrice Cushenberry.

On Saturday October 7, 2023, she heard the call of the Master and moved to her new home.   She leaves to cherish her memory, her two children, Deanna Rickman West, and Kevin (Shenita) Rickman.  She leaves a devoted son-in-love, Jeffrey West; 5 grandchildren, DeAndrea (Darius) Anderson, Jeffrey West, Jr., Deonica Jade West, Alena Rickman, Joelle Rickman.  8 sisters, Clara Humphries, Betty J (Marshall) Gray Sr., Louella Duncan, Anita (James) Oldham, Karen Malone, and Cheryl Morris, all of Hopkinsville, KY.  Regina (Larry) Arnold of Cadiz, KY, Wanda Fleming, Indianapolis, Ind.  4 brothers, Bryant (Cherhonda) Humphries, Louisville Ky., Wayne, Oliver, and Frank Fleming.  12 great grand-children and a host of nieces and nephews.   Also mourning are many, many families, and friends that she loved dearly, and they loved her back. Rest now Ann, you have earned your wings and your crown.
