His memory will remain a source of strength, gratitude, and love to all who knew him and called him family.
Benjamin Franklin May, born May 10, 1944, departed this life on October 6, 2026. His life was marked by faith, service, steady devotion to family, and a deep commitment to the communities and institutions he loved.
Mr. May served his country in the U.S. Army, carrying with him the dignity and discipline of military service. In his working life, he was an LPN at Fort Campbell, a role he fulfilled with care and dedication until his retirement in 2004. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge Thomas A. Simms Jr. #170, and he found simple joy in watching sports.
A man of abiding faith, Benjamin was a devoted member of Edgefield Baptist Church, where he served in many meaningful capacities. He was a deacon, treasurer, a member of the male chorus, and a Senior Sunday School teacher. These roles reflected both his leadership and his willingness to serve wherever he was needed, and they formed an enduring part of the legacy he leaves behind.
He will be remembered with love by those who survive him, especially his wife, Charlotte May, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. He also leaves to cherish his memory his son, Benjamin F. "Frankie" (Misty) May; his stepchildren, Anna M. Outlaw, Desiree Adams, Alesandro Shepherd, and Russell Shepherd; and his brother, Slyvester May; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a host of great great-grandchildren. May his memory remain a source of strength, gratitude, and love to all who knew him and called him family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Lee Ray; his father, Johnny May; his sister, Irma J. May; and his stepdaughter, Alessandra Shepherd.
Visitation will be held on October 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Gamble Funeral Home, 1311 S. Liberty St., Hopkinsville, Kentucky 42240.
