Mother Bobbie Ella Brim Croney, a cherished church mother and devoted matriarch, began her earthly journey in Christian County, Kentucky, on August 24, 1924. She was lovingly welcomed by her parents, Tom and Laura Brim. Throughout her life, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose strength, steadfast faith, and nurturing spirit touched generations.
At an early age, Mother Croney gave her life to Christ and joined Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and dedicated servant for many years. As a young girl, she attended Mt. Vernon Church School and later lifted her voice in praise with the Mt. Vernon Adult Choir. In her senior years, she served faithfully on the Mt. Vernon Mother's Board, embracing her role as a church mother with grace, wisdom, and humility. She loved Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and every opportunity to worship and serve, offering encouragement, care, and a steady example of Christian devotion to all who knew her.
In 1940, Mother Croney united in holy matrimony with Nokomis Croney, Sr., and this loving union was blessed with five children. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Among her greatest joys was the time she spent with her grandchildren, lovingly watching over them, caring for them, and creating memories that will be treasured for years to come. Her presence brought comfort, warmth, and reassurance to her family. She and Deacon Croney also enjoyed fishing, raising vegetable gardens, and planting fruit trees. She often spoke joyfully of her five trips to New York City to visit her two daughters and their families.
Mother Croney completed her pilgrimage on earth on Thursday, May 28, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Deacon Nokomis Croney, Sr.; her son, MSG (Ret.) Nokomis Croney, Jr.; four sisters, Katie P. Waddell, Josephine Styles, Mary Carter, and Zadie M. Dawson; and two brothers, Walter A. L. Carter and Harry Lee Brim.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters, Bobbie M. (Thomas) Hutchins, Marjorie Cotton, and Minnie (Thomas) Meriwether; one son, Sammie L. Croney; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, the Mt. Vernon Church family, other relatives, and friends. Her family, church family, and all who were blessed by her life will surely miss her.
