He shared a special bond with his granddaughter through teaching her sign language, a reflection of the patience, love, and attention he gave to his family.
David Jerome “Jerry” Polley, born December 23, 1953, passed away on October 12, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and a life marked by devotion, strength, and warmth.
Jerry retired after 35 years from Johnson Control, where he worked as a spot welder. He was a man who valued hard work and steady commitment, and those qualities shaped the way he lived and cared for the people around him. A member of Antioch Baptist Church, he carried his faith with him through the years and remained a steady presence in the lives of those who knew him.
He found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. Jerry loved fishing, hunting, golfing, and listening to music. He also shared a special bond with his granddaughter through teaching her sign language, a reflection of the patience, love, and attention he gave to his family. He was the patriarch of the family, a husband, a great father, grandfather, and brother. He had a gift for reading people and, once he got to know someone, for giving them a nickname that often became a lasting sign of his affection.
Above all, Jerry will be remembered for the place he held in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Polley, his beloved partner of 53 years; his son, Jason (Wanda) Polley; his daughter, Davida (Devron) Walton; his brothers, Mark (Tanya) Bell and Gralin Bell; and his sister, Monica McCombs; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews . Their lives were shaped by his guidance, humor, and enduring love, and his memory will remain a treasured part of their days.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Lou Bell; his father, Richard Polley; his sister, Carolyn Vinson; his brother, Lloyd Bridges; and his special aunt, Ruby Davie. Their memories remained part of his story throughout his life, and now he is reunited with those who went before him.
Visitation will be held on October 19, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Gamble Funeral Home, 1311 S. Liberty St., Hopkinsville, KY 42240. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Gamble Funeral Home. Burial will also take place on October 19, 2026, at Gamble Funeral Home.
Jerry’s life was one of loyalty, love, and presence. He leaves behind lasting memories in the laughter he shared, the names he gave, the lessons he taught, and the love he poured into his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing him.
