Obituary

Edward Carnelius Young Jr was born October 19, 1933, in Hugheston West Virginia to Christine Oatneal and Edward C Young. Raised by his mother Christine and Stepfather Monroe Dearman, who he affectionately called "Ole Man".

He played football at Byrd-Prillerman High where he graduated from in 1951.

He loved the pursuit of higher education and obtained several degrees. He majored in chemistry at Purdue University and obtained is BA in Religion at St Joseph's University.

Edward worked at Westing House before he chose to enlist in the Army. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1965, being stationed at Fort Campbell Ky and Frankfurt Germany. He worked as a Medical Specialist and was awarded the Expert Rifle and Marksman in 1961,

After the Army , Edward pursued a career at Inland Steel as an Inspector Leader in the Metallurgical De-partment. While at Inland Steel, he received top honors for outstanding performance in the pursuit of excellence 3 times during his time with the company. After 26 years of consciencious service, he retired from Inland Steel.

After retirement, Edward was able to devote more time to his favorite hobbies: Fishing, music, board games, working on computers and watching professional football. His favorite team was the Chicago Bears. He loved traveling to his home state of West Virginia to visit his extended family and shared a special connection with his cousin William "Bill" Dearman, until his death.

In 1991, he married his wife Helen Young, at Freeman Chapel in Hopkinsville, KY.

Ever the devoted member of the church, Edward was active in several church boards and activities, in the Merrillville and Harvey Indiana region. He was a Sunday School Supervisor for Westley United Meth-odist Church. He serviced on the Trustee Board and was licensed as a lay speaker as well.

He sang in the choir of the Cartier Memorial CME Church, while being licensed as a minister. He was also a member o f the Gary Inter Faith Clergy Council.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents Christine Dearman, Edward C Young and his stepfather Monroe Dearman. His sons Carlos Young, Kenneth Walker and his step son Kenneth Shipp.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Helen Young. Edward Young III and Dennis Young- chil-dren of the late Iris Y Young. Christina Ezzard and Sir Edward Paul Young - children of late Pamela Harris Young. His step children Angela Shipp and Nelson Shipp Jr. 20 grandchildren and 23 great grand chil-dren and an abundance of cousins and other relatives and friends
