Evelyn “Merna” Gray, born Evelyn McClelland, passed away on October 17, 2026, in Princeton, Kentucky. She was born on July 30, 1928, in Princeton, and remained deeply connected to the community that was both her birthplace and her home.
Mrs. Gray was known as a seamstress and homemaker, devoting her life to the work of caring, creating, and providing comfort for those around her. She loved sewing and was gifted with hands that stayed busy in service to her family and home. She also enjoyed cooking, crocheting, working puzzle books, and fishing. Some of her greatest happiness came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives were part of the legacy she cherished most. She was baptized at Shepherd St. Baptist Church, a meaningful part of her life and faith.
She is survived by her daughter and son, Rosina Gray and John (Regina) Gray, and by her daughter-in-law, Annette McClelland. She also leaves behind a large and loving family through the generations, including 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. The love she shared with her family will continue to be remembered in the lives she helped shape and in the many memories they hold dear.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gray; her parents, John McClelland and Georgia Johnson McClelland; her daughter, Anita McClelland; her sons, William McClelland, James Clifton Gray, and Jerry Gray; her sisters, Sophia Della Brown, Georgia Lee Moore, and Elizabeth McGowan; her brothers, John McClelland, Edward McClelland, and Willie McClelland; and her granddaughter, Hope Wharton.
Evelyn “Merna” Gray will be remembered with love for her steady presence, her caring spirit, and the devotion she gave to her family throughout her life. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
