Obituary

Gladys Ann Shade Sivels, 82, Hopkinsville passed on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Gladys was the daughter of the late Henry Shade and Sheppelle Morton Shade and was raised by the late Francis E. & Georgia M. Whitney.

Gladys was a member of Virginia Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the 50 Year Club, Participant in Adopt-A-Grandparent Program, member of Hy Quest Sunday School Class, Pianist and member of the Senior Choir, member of Dorcas Missionary Society, member of Combined choir and member of the Homebound Ministry. She was employed with the Christian County Public School System as a teacher at Lacy Elementary School. Gladys joined Beta Rho Omega Chapter at Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on February 28, 1977. She was a Silver Member (25+) years with 46 years of service. Additionally, Gladys served as Treasurer on various committees.

Gladys was one of the Co-founders of the Modernette Civic Club, Inc. which was organized in 1965. She was one of the Past Presidents of the Modernette Civic Club for several years and Past Historian. Sher was an active member of the club for over 48 years and was actively involved with all the club activities. Gladys decided several years ago she could no longer participate with the Club as an active member, therefore, she requested to become Modernette Emeritus.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Brian Mandell Sivels, and eight siblings.

Survivors include her husband, Jewell "J.D." Desmond Sivels; son, Desmond Eugene Sivels; one grandson, Brian E. Sivels.
