James "Pap" Massie Major, Sr. 93, died, Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Baptist Health, Madisonville, KY of natural causes.

A native of Christian County, he was born July 3, 1927, son of the late Frank Major, Sr and Mary E. Bibbs Major.

James was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he served as an Usher. He was a retired crosstie carpenter from Koppers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velor Major, daughter, Brenda Johnson, son, Luther Major. Siblings, Charlie Major, Frank Major, Jr. and Grace Vaughn.

Survivors include his children, Linda (Bobby) Shingles, James (Patricia) Major, Jr., Patricia Hester, Loyd (Lois) Brime, Arlanda (Teresa) Brime, Jacqueline Walker, Shanta (David) Williams, Michelle (Randy) Stevenson and Darrell (Shannon) Major.  Thirty-nine grandchildren,  a host of great and great-great grandchildren.
