Obituary

Joyce Ann Browder Barker was born May 18, 1947 to the late Finis Elwood and Florence Smith Browder in Christian County.

Growing up in Todd County Joyce united with the Little Union Baptist Church. She went to Todd County Training High School in Elkton, Kentucky up to the 12th grade. Later received her GED and graduated from Hopkinsville Community College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science with High Distinction.

Sis. Barker accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at the Church of Jesus under the leadership of the late Bishop R. A. Smith Sr. and remained faithful under the leadership of Pastor Ray Smith Jr. until Jesus called her home on February 10, 2023. She truly loved Jesus, our Ministry and the Saints at the Church of Jesus.

Sis. Barker was a sweet, humble, kind and loving soul to everyone she met. She loved children and they loved her as she cared for so many children over the years. She was affectionately called Sweetie by her granddaughter Zanyla, soon all who loved her started calling her Sweetie and that she was.

She enjoyed doing crypto quotes, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, spending time with her family and watching UK basketball games.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Brooks Barker Jr., a sister, Margaret Browder Turnley and a brother, Freeman Browder.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memory one son: Gary Barker of Madison, Tennessee; Three daughters: Karen (Norris) Kennedy, Angela (Daven) Thomas, Nikia (Ronnie Hester) Barker and a bonus daughter Kim (Clint) Henagan all of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; One brother: Anderson Browder of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; Two sisters: Beatrice Jones of Louisville, Kentucky and Sylvia Collins of New London, Connecticut. She had twelve grandchildren: Clineshia Jeanmard, Jasmine Hunt Keaton, Paige Hunt, Phillip Brooks Barker III, Diamond Barker, Destiny Barker, Zanyla Hester, Sabella Barker, Zarian Hester, Safiya Barker, Clint and Sydni Henagan – {Their Mi Mi}; Four great-grandchildren: Tyler Keaton, Camerin Jeanmard, Markenzo Lee Mable and Phillip Brooks Barker IIII; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and her family in Jesus.
