~In Loving Memory~

Margaret Geraldine Gadsden Peterson, 86, was born May 13, 1936, in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late James and Rosie Gadsden and was raised by her grandparents, the late Rev. & Mrs. D.W. Washington. She peacefully passed away early Saturday morning, April 8, 2023.

Margaret was a devoted member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir and the St. Peter & Paul Catholic School Board.   She was a graduate of Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina.  Professionally, Margaret worked 41 years as an educator:  28 years in Hopkinsville, Kentucky; three years in Clarksville, Tennessee; two years in Springfield, Tennessee; and eight years in Charleston, South Carolina.

Attending to the needs of her family was second to none. While managing her full-time job and raising their two sons, she always included precious time for her dearly beloved husband.

As a deceased member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she is now an Ivy Beyond the Wall. Having served in the Beta Rho Omega Chapter, Margaret was a lifetime member, a former chapter president, and a member of various chapter committees.

A loving, devoted wife, supportive, loving, and endearing mother, tender-hearted, generous, and sweet friend with a warm, cheery, uplifting, and encouraging smile, Margaret was known as a friend to all.

Husband Levi Peterson, Jr., survives Margaret after 63 years of marriage. She was the beat of her husband's heart. Margaret is also survived by sons Levi Peterson III and Herschel Peterson, as she was the dream of her sons' desires.

Other devoted family surviving her include two beautiful granddaughters: Margaret E. Peterson (Houston) and Savannah M. Peterson (Houston); sisters: Geraldine Weathers (Louisville) and Sheila Mahand (Birmingham); nieces from Louisville: Carmen Weathers-Washington, Charmein Weathers, Camille Weathers-Woods, and Dr. Charita Weathers; nephew from Birmingham: Thalmus Mahand (Joy); and a host of other family and dear friends.
