Obituary

Mary Helen Whitlock, 97, Hopkinsville, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in Hopkinsville, KY.

Mary was the daughter of the late Hunter and Maud Sweatt. She was born on December 18, 1926, in Quality, KY.

Mary was the oldest member of West Union Baptist Church where she was the Past President and Vice President of the Senior Choir. She was an active member of the Missionary Society, member of the Culinary Committee, active member of Little River Cumberland Valley Women's Convention and Missionary Society. She was the oldest member of New Zion in Quality, KY before moving to West Union Baptist Church.

Mary retired after working 30+ years as an Ophthalmologist Surgical Technician and Office Staff with Dr. William Rowlett.

Mary enjoyed crocheting, cooking, reading, mentoring others, traveling, volunteering in various community agencies, and writing plays for children. She graduated Valedictorian of Knob City H.S., Russellville, KY.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Whitlock, Sr.

Survivors include her children, Gloria Jean Phelps, Linda M. (William) Fields, Donald E. (Julia) Beard; Devoted mother to Frank Whitlock, Peter (LuRita) Whitlock, and Teresa Walker; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.
