Nyra Lee Edwards, 78, was called home by her heavenly father on June 9, 2021.  She began her peaceful journey surrounded by her family. Nyra was born on December 3, 1942 in Madisonville, Kentucky to the late Reverend Sidney and Annie Mae Gilmore.  A loving wife, mother, and dear friend, she was truly a blessing for all those fortunate enough to know her.

Nyra served her community as an educator for over 40 years and retired from Marshall Elementary School, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.  Her kindness and gentle manner of teaching was truly a wonder to behold.  She raised two sons with the love of her life James and through her compassion and thoughtfulness was a motherly figure to countless others.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Edwards, Command Sergeant Major, United States Army, Retired.  Sister, Cheryl Gilmore.  Brothers, Arthur Gilmore and Allan Gilmore.

She is survived by her sons, Dwayne Edwards, and Michael Edwards (Chonta), Her brother, Lloyd Gilmore (Ramona), Her grandson Michael Edwards II, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and dear friends.
