Shirley Mai Kendrick Gilbert was born August 22, 1938 to the late Rebecca Thomas Kendrick and the late Manson Kendrick in Christian County Kentucky. Shirley was united in holy matrimony to her beloved late husband Joe M. (Head) Gilbert in 1960 who preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her sister Margaret Kendrick, a brother James T. Kendrick and her two nephews, Harold Kendrick and Louis Kendrick.

Shirley accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Boiling Spring Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksville, Tennessee. In later years after moving to Russellville Kentucky, Shirley united with the Middleton First Baptist Church in Middleton Kentucky under the Pastorate of the late Reverend Eugene Dunn.

Shirley loved Middleton First Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher for over 32 years, served as president of the kitchen committee and was a church Usher. She was in faithful attendance at Middleton until her health began to fail a few years ago.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted Sister-n-law and special friend, Ms. Joann Gilbert, her devoted Goddaughter and caregiver Ms. Pam Dickerson of Adairville, KY, cousins John (Julia) Gold, Dr. Moniqueka E. Gold, Maria Gold, all of Clarksville, Tennessee, Mary Lightening & Newt Lightening of Guthrie Kentucky, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a very special friend, Ms. Sara Stovall; my friends in Oakville and the Russellville community.

Private graveside services for the immediate family only, due to social distancing will be held at Townsend Grove Cemetery Schochoh, KY.
