Obituary

“

Thomas Edward Meriwether will be remembered with love, gratitude, and deep respect for the life he lived and the example he set.

Thomas Edward Meriwether, born April 27, 1948, passed away on October 4, 2026, leaving behind a life marked by faith, service, family devotion, and steady commitment to his community.

Mr. Meriwether served in the U.S. Army, and throughout his life carried the spirit of duty with him. He later devoted 29 years to Civil Service at Fort Campbell, retiring after a long and faithful career. His days were also shaped by the simple pleasures and familiar rhythms he enjoyed most: yard work, church, watching sports, and following politics. He was also part of the Meriwether singing group, a reflection of the fellowship and shared joy that music brought into his life.

His faith was central to who he was. Thomas was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, where he served in many meaningful roles over the years—as a deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and choir member. These were not just titles, but expressions of a life poured out in service, leadership, and worship. His church family knew him as a man who gave of himself generously and consistently.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Meriwether; his father, Charles Meriwether Sr.; and his brothers, Charles Meriwether Jr. and John Meriwether.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Minnie Meriwether; his sons, Jeremy (Carrie Wells) Meriwether and Brooks Meriwether; his sisters, Willa Fay (Austin) Buckner and Patricia A. Jackson; his brother, Rev. Randy (Barbara) Meriwether; his sisters-in-law, Mary Meriwether and Velma Meriwether; and his grandchildren, Jailen L. Meriwether, Kerrigan A. Meriwether, and Camryn J. Meriwether. In their love and remembrance, his presence will continue to be felt—at family gatherings, in church pews, in songs remembered, and in the enduring values he lived each day.

Visitation will be held on October 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Mount Vernon Church Road, Hopkinsville, Kentucky 42240. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, 5817 Fort Campbell Blvd, Hopkinsville, Kentucky 42240.

Thomas Edward Meriwether will be remembered with love, gratitude, and deep respect for the life he lived and the example he set.
